THE ABUSE OF MONEY

“There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up” – Proverbs 21:20

“And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood and commanded him to be brought unto Him: and when he was come near, He asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, THAT I MAY RECEIVE MY SIGHT. And Jesus said unto him, RECEIVE thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.” – Luke 18:35-42

Everywhere where there is breath of life, money will be mentioned. There is something about money and life which many believers and ministers have craved to unveil. Some going to extremes and make all their messages to their congregations end up with money while others are less informed and get envious in search of money.

In all cases, I have discovered that it is not the lack of money that is the problem but how we manage it!

A man of God once said that whatever you don’t know the value of abuse becomes inevitable. Likewise when you don’t know the value of money you abuse it. Central Bank of Nigeria will tell you that squeezing Naira notes is an abuse but the Kingdom abuse is not in handling of “paper” but its misuse.

8 Ways To Abuse Money

  1. When You Don’t Multiply It:
To multiply money is to invest it. If you are not investing it then you are abusing it! Remember “the parable of talents” in Matt 25:14-30; Jesus called the abuser of talent “the unprofitable servant.” It does not matter how small an amount is; take one step at a time in sowing or transacting it in a profitable business!
  2. When You Don’t Save It:
“A foolish man spendeth it up” – Proverbs 21:20
Joseph taught Egyptians how to save in days of abundance that became their strength against famine years later (Genesis 41).
  3. When You Don’t Fence It From Devourers:
A farm that has no fence will be devoured by goats or thieves! So devourers attack finances when tithes are ignored (Malachi 3:10).
  4. When You Are Not Rich Towards God:
If you don’t use money for Kingdom purposes or giving back what belongs to God then abuse begins (Luke 12:21).
  5. When You Squander It:
If you waste resources without accountability or planning then this leads to abuse (Proverbs 21:20).
  6. When It Affects Loved Ones Negatively:
Mismanagement can affect family members or loved ones negatively (Genesis 47:11-12).
  7. When You Don’t Honour Debt Payments:
Failure to settle bills or debts can lead to financial abuse (Ecclesiastes 5:4).
  8. When You Don’t Appreciate God For It:
Giving thanks for income ensures blessings remain intact (1 Chronicles 29:12).
