“And in the forth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I, be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord save me.” – Matt. 14:25-30
Here is an encounter of Jesus and His disciples. They saw Him walking on the sea in the midst of the storm. It is contrary to human or scientific reasoning to walk on water unaided by anything, but Jesus did, and wished all of us to do likewise.
Walking on the sea is you walking on the impossibilities of life, is you operating in the supernatural realm. Life is filled with circumstances that keep us in the ship, not progressing and yet watching others succeeding. God is still looking for those that will dare to see the sea and the storm and step out of their ship to face life’s challenges.
A revelation of Jesus in your life is the first key you need to get to your destiny. The disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea. You need to see Jesus as your Lord and Savior before you take any step towards destiny. The efforts of a sinner will ultimately end up with frustration; accepting Him gives you assurance of life here and in eternity.
One vital key also needed in getting to your destiny in life is your desire to be with Jesus. All the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea but it was only Peter that desired the adventure. Desire is powerful if it is Holy Spirit-inspired. A desire to step out of the boat will distinguish you from the crowd. God is looking for those with the desire and boldness of Peter. Let a strong godly desire to succeed rise up inside you.
“Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” – Ps. 37:4
One of the strongest weapon against stagnation is a desire to reach new height in Christ Jesus. Where you are now is crowded, eagles don’t flock. Step out and let others watch you walk on the sea.
“And he said, come” – Matt. 14:29
Jesus said to Peter, come. You need to hear the voice of the master before you step out of the ship. He called those who He predestined to be glory. Your actions should be based on the word “if the Lord.”
It doesn’t matter the voices around you or the circumstances surrounding you, your ultimate goal is to fulfil the word of God for your life. If you have heard Him then step out of your “boat”. God will always back a man who act on His word. The first key to overcoming drowning in the journey of life is to stand on His word – your dependable prop to walk on the sea.
“And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”
Peter did walk on the water. He did the seemingly impossible. You can do likewise. Believers are called to do the impossible, see the invisible and hear the inaudible. In Christ Jesus you have all it takes to walk on the water. Divine distinction is achieved when you do what is only possible with God. Remember to walk on the water is to walk on His word. [Eph. 5:26]
One vital point you should note in the life of Peter was his motive to be with Jesus. If your motive is to be with Him, you get His full approval. In anything you do, always make sure that your motive is to please the Father. God is really concerned about your motive for taking that step.
Always know that your motive is more important than your actions. Wrong motives with good actions will end up in frustration. God desires a church with the Peter’s spirit, a people motivated by God’s word and with the primary preoccupation to be with Jesus.
This is the company you should belong to.
One last word, was the fault of Peter; he lost his focus.
“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid, and beginning to sink.”
You will only see the wind if you take your eyes off Jesus.
You keep your journey by keeping your focus on Him. Don’t loose your focus.
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
This you do by deliberately ignoring the contrary circumstances and event around you.
Jesus rescued Peter from drowning. He will also do the same to you. Are you gradually drowning because you took your eyes off Jesus at a point in your life. He can rescue you, and restore your faith back if you will only cry like Peter did.
“Lord, save me.” Be sincere and return to Him wholeheartedly.
This is your day.
